Description:
A survey of the history of women and their representation from the heroic age and Homer to the Roman Empire of the 2nd century AD. Evidence from legal texts and literature along with epigraphic, numismatic and artistic depictions of women will be considered from several key periods, including 5th century Athens and Rome during the late Republic and early Empire. May be registered as HIST 4120 or WSTU 4120. Credit allowed in only one of the three courses.
