This course is the first course in the curriculum. The student is introduced to the client and to the health care environment, the nature of professional nursing, and professional standards in nursing. Basic concepts related to communication, family systems, recognition of cultural diversity, stress and adaptation, caring, client education, and teaching are introduced. Other topics addressed include: critical thinking and the nursing process, test taking, the NCLEX examination, and other available resources to support nursing education. The Edison State College Nursing Program’s philosophy, curriculum framework, and program outcomes are presented. This course requires some basic computer skills and CE6. The instructor will demonstrate CE6.
