Concepts and skills required for the transition to the professional nurse's role and the application of the nursing process with client systems through the life span are explored. Metaparadigms foundational to the art and science of nursing (client systems, environment, health, and nursing) are explored. Environmental factors are examined that promote, maintain, or restore client system balance with emphasis on the adult client. Communication, clinical leadership and evidence-based practice skills that enhance the student's ability to perform in a complex organizational system are emphasized.
