Prerequisite: Three credits in theater or permission of the instructor. Selected studies in theater, film or dance with a focus on history, criticism, performance or production. May be repeated for degree credit with permission and if the topics are different. Topic for Fall 2010: THTR 290: Topics in Performance: Creating a Play (3). Enrollment limited to 12 students. Participants in this hands-on course create the dramatic script for Lexington’s Letters to the Editor, a play that will be staged by W&L’s Theater Department in Spring 2011. Students creatively organize, edit, and juxtapose the selected letters to the editor of the News-Gazette (1804 to present), creating a theatrical collage that honors the diversity and local history of Lexington, Virginia. Students with interests in the fields of theater, journalism, and history find ample opportunity to explore their artistic and research skills. No practical theater or creative writing experience necessary. Jew.
