Introduces students to the basic concepts of statutory law. The rules of legislative analysis, construction, and interpretation, among other topics, will be explored, as well as the role of attorneys in the legislative and administrative processes. The focus of the course is on training students to be able to analyze, interpret, and apply statutes and other forms of public law to factual situations that commonly arise in the practice of law. The course will also provide an overview of the legislative and administrative processes and policy considerations inherent in the creation of public law. All Concentrations. First-year.
