This course is designed to provide an in-depth view of one of the most challenging issues in Juvenile Law, Mental Illness in Juveniles. There are two different areas in which childhood mental illness must be addressed in Juvenile Court: (1) children who are dependent due to mental illness, and whose parents are unable to meet their needs and (2) youth who are delinquent, in significant part due to mental health issues and how the Court can obtain the necessary treatment for those youth while protecting the community.
