This course provides an overview of the history of the ancient Near East, with aparticular focus on ancient Mesopotamia. It begins with the advent of writingin the late fourth millennium B.C.E. and ends with the fall of Babylon to Cyrusthe Great, in 539 B.C.E. The course combines archaeological, art historical,and textual data to explore the extraordinarily rich history of this region.
