Equations of state for ideal and simple nonideal substances. First law, heat and heat transfer, work, internal energy, enthalpy. Second law, entropy, free energy. Third law. Heat engines and important engineering applications such as refrigerators, power cycles. Properties and simple models of solutions. Phase and chemical equilibrium in multicomponent systems; chemical potential. Laboratory included.
