Considers how people acquire, organize, and apply their political beliefs; historical and contemporary patterns of public opinion, with emphasis on conflicts of values and social groups; who votes and why; the role of the media and political campaigns in mobilization and in formation of public opinion; and linkage between opinion, participation, and policy, with attention to whether citizens can discharge the responsibilities of democratic citizenship.
