This advanced elective is designed to teach knowledge of and skills in effective direct practice with families and couples. The focus is on assessment, planning, and intervention wtih families and couples using state of the art technologies and research-based theoretical models that have proven effective with families and couples. Influences of variables such as race/ethnicity, culture, SES, gender, sexual orientations and mental and physical conditions will be incorporated. Special attention will be given to African American families and couples, as well as those from rural settings.
