RHET 354 - Quantum Writing III

Institution:
Rockford University
Subject:
Description:
RHET354 is the third course in the Quantum Writing sequence. The sequence begins in RHET352 by framing a research project that culminates in RHET355 with the presentation / marketing of a documentary. Students may take any course in the sequence. RHET354 provides students with advanced skills in argumentation through the hands-on work of editing and the shaping of a documentary. Working on the class CBL project, which is chronicled in a documentary, serves as an example common to all the students as they study and develop written, oral, and visual rhetorical practices. Students will then apply what they have learned to their own written assignments. RHET354 students will edit the raw footage produced in RHET353, shaping those issues, learning how to further narrow the subject matter, and creating a narrative voice. This community-based learning project will facilitate an environment in which students consider how their skills may be applied to resolving issues arising within the civic contexts of the workplace, neighborhoods and schools. Interdisciplinary reading and writing assignments, as well as interaction with various segments of the community of the city Rockford and interdisciplinary teaching, will provide models that make connections among disciplines and will demand that students develop strategies for synthesizing the knowledge they have acquired. This course meets the upper division Rhetoric requirement. Because of the variance in content, it may be repeated for elective credit.
