This course will use the richness and diversity of concerts, operas, and other music events in London as a basis for stimulating interest in western classical music - using the word classical in the wide sense of art music from all periods - and for deepening students' aural, intellectual, and emotional responses to music. The course will provide the opportunity to study different textural, structural, and formal principles and models and the placing of works heard in live performances against stylistic, cultural, social, and historical backgrounds.
