(XL: POLS 385) An examination of the origins and the successive phases of the Cold War, including its end following the dissolution of Soviet Hegemony in East Europe in 1989 and the unification of Germany in 1990. Based on the general overview of the U.S. Soviet and East-West relations, the course will include discussion of NATO and the Warsaw Pact. American and Soviet strategic doctrines, arms control negotiations, and the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. PRQ: POLS 282 or consent of instructor. Scheduled: On request.
