Upon successful completion of prerequisites, the student will enter into an apprenticeship agreement with an approved carrier sponsor. The student will be required to serve the sponsor 4000 hours as an apprentice. The apprentice will be assigned a journeyman supervisor and will be solo or team dispatched by the approved apprenticeship sponsor to drive truck with capacity of more than 3 tons, to transport materials to and from specified destinations. The apprentice will drive truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads. The driver will prepare receipts for load picked up. Collect payment for goods delivered and delivery charges. May maintain truck log, according to state and federal regulations. May maintain telephone, radio or satellite contact with driver supervisor to receive delivery instructions. May load and unload truck. May inspect truck equipment and emergency roadside repair, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and tie down devices, taping procedures, and truck fueling.
