This is a course in both music history and musical styles that will primarily focus on the development of ancient through Western Medieval music. Topics will range from addressing issues related to the role of music and musicians in society to fundamental musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, and form. All topics will be approached from an aural point of view and development of active listening skills will be stressed. No previous background in music is required.
