PERS ENE1 - Home Energy Auditing

Institution:
Ivy Tech Community College
Subject:
Description:
The Home Energy Auditing Class is a hands-on course that will teach you how to evaluate your energy usage and eliminate waste. Students will use hand-held watt meters to measure the amount of energy appliances use, and translate the findings into what really matters¿total energy costs per year. In addition to locating electrical energy losses, students also will use a blower door to detect and fix drafts in a house. The class will detail the difference between what homeowners can do themselves that are low-cost or no-cost fixes, what a professional should be hired to do, and what probably is not necessary to fix at all. Finally, you also will learn how window ratings affect their performance. You¿ll learn how to compare windows based on their U-factor, R rating, insulation, and return on investment. This hands-on class can pay for itself many times over as you reduce your energy usage and help your friends and relatives reduce their energy use as well.
