Description:
This course provides basic fire chemistry relating to the categories of hazardous materials including problems of recognition, reactivity and health encountered by emergency responders. The student will understand the basic theories of chemistry that the emergency responder needs to know. Emphasis will be on the principles of detection and identification of hazardous materials and understanding how the physical states of matter react to adverse conditions. Successful completion of this course meets the requirements for the United States Fire Administration, National Fire Science Curriculum. Prerequisite: None. 3 cr. 3 Lec. (Per Departmental Standards Version of FPT/CRJ 107, approved by Academic Affairs on 10/18/07).
