Description:
This course is an examination of several criminal trials that have had significant effects on the American criminal justice system. The historical and legal significance of trials such as Sacco-Vanzetti, Gideon v. Wainwright, Miranda v. Arizona, Chester Gillette, Caryl Chessman, and O.J. Simpson will be studied in order to understand the court's role in the criminal justice system. The rules of procedure and evidence will be analyzed in order to determine the importance of trial in the criminal justice system. Prerequisite: CRJ 102 or CRJ 110. 1 cr. 1 Lec. (Per Departmental Standards Version of CRJ 238, approved by Academic Affairs on 3/14/01).
