CED 428 - Shakespeare's Hero, Hellion

Institution:
Jefferson Community College
Subject:
C- Continuing Education
Description:
Find out more about Shakespeare and his writings during this three week non-credit workshop. Session I will consider the limitations of Shakespeare's stage, the realities of his political, social, and economic world, and the demands and tastes of his audience. Session II--Henry V: Shakespeare's Perfect King. Henry V is widely regarded as England's perfect king, and Shakespeare's presentation of the monarch is designed to highlight the characteristics of a great leader, particularly in a time of war. Session III Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Shrew remains on of Shakespeare's most popular plays, yet readers are troubled by the overt emotional and physical abuse employed in "taming" Kate and wonder if she's as "tame" as her words suggest at the end of the play. Participants are asked to bring a copy of Taming of the Shrew and Henry V to the workshop.
