This course is an in-depth review of the many different duties of a buyer - the planning, buying, and selling of merchandise and how that function can be performed to maximize profit. Students will gain an understanding of the principles and techniques of buying, which include inventory and stock procedures, budgeting, assortment planning, how to negotiate a purchase, and selection of merchandise. Strategies and formulas needed to develop a merchandise-buying plan are also covered, including vendor sourcing, consumer research, inventory fluctuations, and timing. Prerequisite: None. 3 cr. 3 Lec. (Per Departmental Standards Version of BUS 239, approved by Academic Affairs on 3/10/05).
