Unlike other creative professionals, visual artists don't have agents or managers--you have to do it all yourself. This class will cover business basics including tracking inventory and preparing invoices; taking legal precautions like registering a copyright and drafting consignment forms; using promotional tools; and making career decisions such as choosing the right venue to show your work. Grants, residencies, do-it-yourself strategies and relationships with galleries and nonprofit institutions will be discussed in depth. Discussion and assignments will emphasize community and the practical, hands-on skills necessary to thrive as a visual artist. Prerequisite: VISA 0100 or 0100, in addition to two semesters of VISA studio courses. Enrollment limited to 20 juniors and seniors in Visual Art. WRIT
