Yet the attitudes brought to dying and death, and the manner in which human mortal remains are treated, vary immensely through time and space. This class will begin by exploring the anthropology and archaeology of death and by analyzing burial rituals in contemporary society, before turning to the "death ways" of the ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern worlds.
