Introduction to computer modeling and simulation in biological research. Designed to illustrate the power and limitations of computer simulation by having students code (in MATLAB) simulation programs for a number of different biological phenomena. Quantitative models used include those of enzyme kinetics, population biology, population genetics, diffusion models, and compartmental models in physiology. 3 lec, 2 lab. Prerequisites: 23 HRS BIOS & (MATH 263B OR 266B) & SR Credit Hours: 4 General Education Code: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Note: Effective Summer Quarter 2010-11 (June 2011) any non-repeatable course may be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
