Description:
This course will expand on cultural knowledge that is currently integrated into UNE coursework through a health immersion experience to Ghana, West Africa. Content will include a focus on health issues related to persons who live in developing countries, specifically the communities of Sekondi and Takoradi, Ghana. Students will have the ability to participate in activities appropriate to their discipline that includes: 1) Participation in the delivery of direct patient care; 2) Community health education with the assistance of community health workers; 3) Becoming versed in the use of interpreters. Students are required to travel to Africa. Travel expenses are required. Prerequisites: Completed two successful years of study in a baccalaureate or graduate program in the college of health professions at UNE.
