Spring Arbor University
Subject:
English (edu
Description:
Advanced English Studies provides students with the opportunity to investigate topics, authors, or works they have encountered in prior English studies. First of all, Advanced English Studies will allow students to examine the primary texts more closely; students must show a clear understanding of text analysis concerns – structure, narration, characterization and theme. More importantly, the course will allow students to understand those texts in the light of other scholarly considerations. For example, students will explore the author’s background in more detail; the author’s education, reading interests, and religious influences will be noted. Students will also examine the historical and political culture of the author’s time and engage critical theoretical perspectives such as Deconstruction, Marxism, Feminism, New Historicism, Cultural criticism and New Criticism.
