The history and culture of immigration since 1850, including: 1) formation and perseverance of immigrant communities and interethnic boundaries; 2) relations between the homeland and the immigrant; and 3) impact of migration on family life and gender roles. Additional reading assignments or project will distinguish this course from its undergraduate version ANTH 455. Students cannot receive credit for both ANTH 455 and ANTH 555. ANTH 101 recommended.
