A course designed to prepare candidates to teach young children with disabilities and support families in school and non-school settings. Topics addressed will include historical and philosophical foundations of services for young children with exceptional learning needs, current trends and issues in the field, service delivery models effective with young children with disabilities, application of family systems theory in early childhood special education, teaching and intervention strategies for young children with special needs, use of assistive and adaptive tools and technologies, and use of consultants and other resources.
