This course will explore the problem of global climate change and potential legal responses. The course will also analyze, among other topics, the science and impacts of climate change (including expected impacts and potential catastrophic risks); policy response options; engaging major emerging powers such as China; sectoral approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation; advanced energy technologies; carbon capture and storage; forestry and reducing emissions from deforestation; and human rights law. The goal of the course is to give law students a comprehensive understanding of the legal mechanisms that may be used to tackle climate change at diverse scales including international, regional, national and sub-national legal orders.
