The framework aids in understanding the effects of taxes on business decisions, and devising effective tax planning strategies. Specific applications of the framework covered in the course include: tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and LBOs; tax arbitrage; compensation policy (for example, stock options, stock appreciation rights, deferred compensation, fringe benefits); taxation of competing organizational forms (for example, limited partnerships and pass-through entities); taxation of investments; and international tax planning strategies.
