The first term of this course will introduce students to some distinctive aspects of United States law and legal institutions. The structure of the U.S. legal profession will be discussed by examining the education, bar admission, and regulation of lawyers, as well as the means for selecting judges. The second term will continue this substantive focus on individual rights under the U.S. Constitution, including the rights relating to free speech and religion granted by the First Amendment and those of due process and equal protection bestowed by the Fourteenth Amendment.
