This course will cover the immune aspect of host-pathogen interaction at both the molecular and cellular levels. Topics include innate immune responses to pathogens such as pattern recognition receptors and effector mechanisms of innate immunity, adaptive immune responses to bacterial, viral and fungal infections, pathogenic strategies for subversion of immune responses and immunopathology, vaccine development to emerging and re-emerging infectious disease. The current understanding of host immune responses to specific pathogens including HIV, HBV, HVC, Malaria, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis will be discussed. Prerequisites: IMM244.
