The course will introduce students to the Prophet Isa (Jesus) and his mother Maryam (Virgin Mary) within the foundational texts (Qur¿an and Hadith) texts of Islam and as well as the theme¿s manifestation in major Muslim traditions, namely Sunni, Shiite and/or Sufi traditions from 7th century to present time. Special attention will be given to the theological underpinnings of various Muslim views on Jesus and Mary, revealing both comparison and contrast with the orthodox Christian traditions.
