Critical introduction to the dynamics and challenges of health policy in China, from the early twentieth century to the present, with a particular focus on the reform period. Topics to be addressed: health care and economic development, state responsibility and welfare systems, privatization, and disparities in access to health services; history of state policy on regional health planning, community health services, rural health provisions in poverty areas, and the developments in public health infrastructure urban and rural settings.
