The course explores the process of militarization as it engulfed Europe and the United States in the ¿long¿ twentieth century. We will situate this process within the changing geopolitics of war and empire in a new global age. We will also pay close attention to the ways in which militarization affected the relationship between state, military, and society across the western world and (re)arranged relations of class, race, and gender, and of production, destruction, and reproduction.
