Uses a historical perspective on issues of development to examine globalization and its impact on women¿s lives. Examines ways in which social constructions of gender plays a role in economic development. Appraises consequences of the internet revolution, new technologies, and the war for resources, particularly the impact of the material demand of microprocessor chips on war and manufacturing. Case studies of countries such as China, Korea, South Africa and Democratic Republic of Congo examine social policy, the influence of the International Women¿s Movement, and women¿s activism on their own behalf as they struggle to improve the economic conditions in which they live.
