Limnology is the study of inland fresh water bodies - their ecology, biology, physics, and chemistry. It includes study of both lentic (still water) and lotic (moving water) bodies. This course has a significant field component and requires students to travel some on weekends. We will emphasize the human-water interface, vertebrate and invertebrate aquatic population studies, and aquatic chemisty. Field habitats studies will include mountain lakes and streams, riparian zones, rivers, and coastal wetlands. Prerequisite: BIO 220 or permission of instructor.
