Principles of management of protected areas. Topics vary and include wilderness, national park, or international protected areas. Focus on legal and historical frameworks, ecological and social issues, and development and practical application of terrestrial protected area management techniques. Lecture and and class discussion of topics. Required 1-day field trip to NC wilderness area. Undergraduates may enroll by permission of instructor. Prerequisite: introductory ecology.
