Fundamental laboratory techniques in basic research in two sections: 1. protein purification, analysis, and the study of protein interactions; 2. nucleic acid techniques, a review of basic nucleic acid chemistry, enzymatic modification, qualitative and quantitative PCR, DNA sequencing, cloning, vectors, and expression analysis including microarray techniques. A team-based learning model: course reading material and recorded lectures are reviewed before class, while in class the material is reinforced through problem sets and group discussion.
