Prerequisite: SOCI 101. This course is designed to introduce students to critical analysis of contemporary popular culture in the United States. Students will get an overview of the many insights, findings, concepts, and perspectives that are held by a wide variety of interdisciplinary popular culture scholars today. Several prominent areas of popular culture to be studied include: advertising, television, film, music, and cyber culture. Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, group work, and video presentations. The main objective of this course is to enable students to better understand the social world around them and their role in it. This course may not be challenged.
