The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the physics of atmospheric processes. Topics include the structure and composition of the atmosphere; thermodynamics of gases; vertical and horizontal transport of heat by radiative and turbulent processes; the structure and evolution of the atmospheric boundary layer; and cloud microphysical processes. This course is designed to meet the National Weather Service requirement for 3 semester hours of Physical Meteorology. P: MTH 245 and ATS 113.
