Designed to introduce prospective teachers to the world of education by overviewing topics such as: what it means to be a teacher; the historical and philosophical roots of teaching; leaders influential in education; the development of American education; and the political, economic, social, and legal foundations of education; curriculum and instruction; international trends in education; and school reform. Emphasis will be given to the current issues challenging educational structures, including finances, standards, inclusion, literacy, ELL learners, the digital divide, special needs students, and cultural competency.
