The American Canoe Association Certificate of Completion for Essentials to River Kayaking and Essentials of Kayak Touring course is a course to teach entry level student how to safely and effectively paddle on slow moving rivers and calm water ways. The course will cover paddling strokes, rescues, safety protocol, and trip planning. Two outdoor paddling trips will be planned during the semester to assess the students learning and demonstration of course knowledge. The trips are not mandatory to attend and will not reflect upon the final grade of the student. To receive the Amerian Canoe Association Certificate of Completion for Essentials to River Kayaking and Essentials of Kayak Touring, the student must attend the outdoor paddling trip and demonstrate appropriate safety and navigational skills.
