In this elective course, students from a variety of disciplines examine palliative care and end of life issues from the perspective of a variety of healthcare practitioners, including nurses and pharmacists. The provision of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual care will be explored. The course integrates pathophysiology, pharmacology, and advanced physical examination principles to assess and manage symptoms in persons with progressive life-threatening illnesses according to the evidence based standards of care. Ethics and legal issues will be explored in reference to palliative care and end of life issues. Didactic study will be augmented with experiential experience and clinically focused work using case study and discussion.
