(3 sem. hrs.) This course will examine music education research from two perspectives: locating, reading, and understanding research; and designing and conducting research studies. It will describe historical, experimental, descriptive, philosophical, and analytical research in music education with a particular emphasis on using research results to inform and guide the teacher in planning and organizing their own instruction. The course is of particular import to students desiring to pursue doctoral-level work in music education; however, it is equally useful to students who wish to improve their own base knowledge and skill as music teachers.
