Prof. Bass, Prof. Sullivan. Conducted in English with readings in translation. Not open to majors or native speakers. A study of Cervantes’ masterpiece Don Quijote and the two outstanding picaresque novels, the anonymous Lazarillo de Tormes and Francisco de Quevedo’s Buscón. The works are studied within the context of the period, with some emphasis given to their importance in the development of the modern European novel. Note: Does not count toward the Spanish major or minor.
