This course is the first part of a four part curriculum leading to Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. This course concentrates on the physical part of networking including basic electronics, computer basics, network basics, addressing, number conversions cabling, and planning. After completing this course the student will be able to: identify the functions of each layer of the OSI reference model; describe data link and network addresses; define and describe the function of the MAC address; explain the five conversion steps of data encapsulation; describe the different classes of IP addresses and subnetting; identify the functions of the TCP/IP network-layer protocols. Prerequisite(s): Permission of instructor Corerequisite(s): CIS 165D
