History of American Jazz Pre: Communications Proficiency Co: Elect: OPEN, LIBERAL ARTS, HUMANITIES Students will learn through classroom lectures, listening and handouts, the history of jazz music, its key figures, events and places, by tracing the evolution of music from its origin in Africa and the American South through the present. Biographical profiles, accompanied by recordings of each artist will be explored, along with social climates that existed during each period of the music. Fulfills open, liberal arts, and humanities electives.
