Description:

Fall. Dance literacy is the study of Laban Movement Analysis. LMA is a comprehensive system for analyzing, observing, experiencing, and notating movement. Its application for this course will involve the analysis of cultural traits and patterns in choreographic work. We will examine the interrelationship of body (nonverbal communication) to space (environment), shape (posture) and effort (expression). Extensive readings, movement studies, discussions, and video observation will be the means of gathering data.
