Pre: Co: Elect: Designed to train the novice in the essentials of coastal navigation. Includes the following topics with ample time for practical work in the class and at home: navigational coordinates; compass theory and use; navigational pubs, charts, and notices; plotting and dead reckoning; computation of tides and currents; ascertaining your position using compass bearings, ranges, and RDF bearings; use of running fixes, bow-beam bearings; and rules of the road. Expect to spend $35 on books and materials available in bookstore. Materials available locally.
