This course is required for students majoring in criminal justice. This is a study of the philosophy and history of law enforcement at the federal, state, county and city levels. It is designed to expose students to the characteristics and operational missions of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Special emphasis will be placed on historical influences and conflicting roles with which the prof3ession has struggled. Students become familiar with policing goals, contemporary police organizations and methods of operations, police culture and approaches to community police and problem-oriented policing.
